Derby Public Schools has nine elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Planning for Your Student’s Future
The Derby Board of Education is committed to a state-of-the-art education for all students, and is continuously looking at ways to enhance the educational opportunities within the Derby district. With support of the board, a strategic planning team was established involving representatives of all stakeholders who identified the district’s strengths and weaknesses, established a mission statement, and created board objectives for the strategic planning program. Proactive strategies were developed and the specific action plans have already produced incredible results district-wide.

Military Families
Derby Public Schools works in close partnership with McConnell Air Force Base Leadership and the School Liaison Officer to address the needs of military-connected students in the district. This partnership has provided many opportunities for program and service development that eases that impact of students in transition and supports students who are facing difficult challenges unique to military families. Curriculum is the Core
With a comprehensive educational program, the district is proud that students who graduate are highly prepared for post-secondary education, diverse employment opportunities and other careers of choice. Derby Public Schools is home to one of the first elementary schools in the nation to offer a Project Lead The Way learning curriculum that exposes students to science, engineering and mathematics like no other program. This curriculum has helped to serve as a springboard for the development of Project Lead The Way Launch, a national program. Derby Public Schools also integrates civic engagement and social emotional learning into the curriculum to help develop the whole child. These amazing opportunities continue through high school in Derby, which has proven to be an invaluable experience for students interested in this field of study.

Support for Special Populations
Derby Public Schools offers district-wide support for students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and for those who require specifically designed instruction in the least restrictive environment. Derby is committed to providing a full range of services for any student who has unique learning needs. The district strives to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum in a manner that enables them to reach their individual goals. A Special Services Parent Advisory Council serves to facilitate collaborative communication between parents and district professionals to work together for the betterment of special service students and providers.

Positive School Culture
Cooperative relationships are an integral part of a positive school experience. Therefore, Derby Public Schools has provided staff and student training to reduce bullying during school and during all associated activities. Derby educators are attuned to recognizing and rewarding students who demonstrate positive problem solving strategies and good teamwork. Resource officers are integrated into the school community to help ensure safety in our buildings. School safety and positive, productive relationships among students, staff and all members of the community is a top priority in Derby.

How to Enroll
To find out the attendance center your child is assigned to, please utilize our Address Locator tool. Enter your address, including city, state and zip code, to show which school you are assigned to. Once you know your home attendance center your assigned to, please contact your school to establish an enrollment time for your student. View a list of all of our schools. Tours of each school can also be arranged by contacting the building.

It is essential you bring the following items with you to enrollment:
• A certified copy of the birth certificate for each child enrolling.
• Kansas Certificate of Immunization 
• A health assessment (physical) for each child starting school in Kansas if he/she is under nine years old.
• Proof of residency requires a current copy of a water/gas/electrical bill, house contract, or renter’s agreement. Families that do not have one of these items must have approval from the building’s principal.
